Tool steel

Tool steel is used to manufacture tools like knifes, chisels or dies.
The most important element which is added to the tool steel is carbon. By adding 1-2 % of carbon, it is possible to harden the steel.

If the tool steel has to be stainless, some 8-30 % of chromium are added to the steel.
Besides carbon and chromium, other elements can be added to improve certain quality levels of the steel.

According to the application, tool steel is subdivided in cold work steel, hot work steel, high speed steel, steel for plastic moulding and powder metallurgic steels. Powder metallurgic steels are completely different from the other types of steel as they have other characteristics due to the production process

Thyssenkrupp Christon has extended possibilities in tool steel. We supply the most current qualities and dimensions as well from stock in Lokeren as from mill stock for less current qualities and dimensions.
